Inspired by Prismatic Wasteland’s challenge and the card game pontoon, we came up with a shiny and (fingers-crossed) new resolution mechanic.
Goals
- Provide a mechanical way to get players work together
- Create a sense of pushing your luck
- Give the players meaningful choices
- Keep it relatively simple
- Crits are fun
Twist
When an outcome is uncertain:
-
Set a target
- regular = 8
- tough = 9
- hard = 10
-
Roll 2d6 and add.
-
Check the result:
- Below target = minor failure
- Target to 12 = success
- Above 12 = major failure
-
Decide if you want to TWIST
- TWIST - propose how someone helps you or how you raise the narrative stakes to roll an additional d6. You must add this to your total, then check your result.
- You can twist multiple times.
- If you twist 3 times, your result is critical (whether a success or failure)
Adapting for stats?
- Roll extra d6’s to start with based on the stat, choose 2 to form your 2d6.
